Bio for Laura Pellegrino. She arrived in Baltimore 4 years ago and quickly
become one of the most visible faces on the Baltimore and DC Argentine Tango
scenes. She spent 2 years studying with many of the U.S'. and Washington DC's,
most esteemed teachers, (Pablo Fontana, Anne-Sophie Ville, Murat Erdemsel,
Sharna Fabiano, Mario Consiglieri and Homer Ladas) as well as with all of the
world's foremost teachers of Argentine Tango that passed through the nation's
capital. Among them were Fabian Salas and Carolina del Rivero, Mauricio
Castro, Metin, Pablo Veron, Jean-Sebastian Rampazzi, and Cecelia Gonzales.
Among the places Laura has performed are Artscape (the largest annual arts
festival in the state of Maryland), The Baltimore Museum of Art, (With Pablo
Fontana) and the Hippodrome Theater (With Murat Erdemsel) for the opening of
Evita. Additionally she has taught on behalf of Baltimore Tango, the YMCA
afterschool program,and the Hippodrome Foundation.
For the last 2 years Laura has been residing in Buenos Aires, Argentina
where she devoted herself to the dance on a full-time basis. Among those with
whom she was fortunate enough to study while living in Buenos Aires are Hugo
Daniel, Luciana Vallee, Kara Wendham and Matias Facio, Sebastian Arce and
Mariana Montes, Carla Marano, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle-Anne, Mariano "Chicho"
Frumboli and Eugenia Parilla all of whom have helped Laura develop a style
that is equally versed in close as well as open embrace.
A belief that technical proficiency is the foundation upon which
improvisation and musicality can most easily flourish has guided her own dance and she
relays that to her students with a great sense of fun, enthusiasm and
attention to detail.
Laura, a former Austinite and professional musician has just returned to the
U.S, and most importantlyTexas, where she will be living and teaching Tango
full-time. She is available for private lessons and will be scheduling
workshops in Austin and Houston shortly.
